7/6 Meeting Notes

I. OPEN DISCUSSION

  • Financial Report – NCEC is in the “black” by a few hundred dollars. NCEC will be receiving a donation from Pizza Fusion (June – Giving Back Tuesdays Promo) for a little over $400.
  • Packer/GreenFuelsDepot Update from Fieseler – $1.5 Million worth of funding passed committee Judy Biggert serves on. This will be a line item in Federal Budget which will need to now be approved by both houses. NCEC has been asked by Packer to supply a list of questions about the GFD in order for Packer to create a Q&A.  

II. CITY OF NAPERVILLE

  • GREENHOUSE GAS EMISSIONS INVENTORY FINAL REPORT (available on city’s web site in 6/2/09 agenda packet). A “clean” copy has been requested from staff and will be distributed to NCEC email list once received.
  • Vision 2030 Meeting will be held Thursday 7/23/09 6:30 pm – 8:30 pm by the Downtown Advisory Commission to receive input from residents. Please plan to attend to incorporate your ideas for environmental sustainability for our downtown area.
  • Residents can visit www.goto2040.org to give their feedback to the Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning for various issues affecting the Chicago Metro area. 

III. NCEC PUBLIC EDUCATION & OUTREACH PROPOSAL

  • Stephanie to set up conference call for next week (July 15th, 8 pm) to discuss this in more detail. Stephanie also to send out a draft proposal for call participants to react to.   Member suggestions during the meeting include: have highly visible Naperville residents have an audit done and support the audit and outcome with PR (resident recommendations included Alan Krashesky, Naperville Sun columnist, Mayor Pradel, and council members).  

IV. LEGISLATIVE UPDATES

  • Federal energy bill passed the House on 6/26/09 which will reduce GHG emissions by 17% from 2005 levels by 2020 and by 83% by 2050. This will be achieved using a carbon equivalent cap and trade system. The bill will also require electric utilities to produce at least 12% of their power from renewables by 2020.  

V. EVENTS

  • Monthly Fundraising Opportunities with retailers (2-10 hours/month) may be presented to NCEC by Michelle Hickey-Fouts. More information will follow.
  • Cool Ride-Clean Choice Oct 10 (early bird forms due by 7/15). Bill Dawe will contact Deb Villarese to find out if NCEC is eligible to participate without paying participant fee in exchange for volunteers.  Stephanie will follow up with Michelle Hickey-Fouts to see what Community Energy has planned for the event.
