Naperville, IL, June 29, 2009Naperville for Clean Energy and Conservation (NCEC), a local grassroots environmental organization, today announced it has been granted 501(c)(3) tax exempt status by the U.S. Internal Revenue Service. The IRS has classified NCEC as a public charity, which means that contributions to the organization are tax exempt; this is often a requirement to qualify for foundation grants. NCEC was founded in 2007 by Sarah Ralph of Naperville on the premise of acting locally to combat global warming and climate change.  NCEC incorporated in 2008 and currently consists of over 150 Naperville residents which meet monthly to discuss opportunities for promoting energy efficiency and renewable energy to fellow residents, businesses and community leaders.  The next NCEC meeting is scheduled for Monday, July 6, 7:30 p.m. at the Municipal Center, Meeting Room A and is open to the public. Stephanie Hastings, NCEC President is very pleased, “This new status will help facilitate our mission of educating Naperville residents about the connections between climate change and our personal actions such as energy use.  NCEC can now compete for grants to help fund a public education and outreach campaign about energy efficiency.”
